Arancha Simón promotes healthy habits at CRA Torrevelilla

The Counselor of Agriculture, Livestock, and Food of the Government of Aragón, Arancha Simón, visited the CRA Torrevelilla to participate in the School Program for the Consumption of Fruits, Vegetables, and Milk. During the event, students enjoyed workshops that combined games, tastings, and learning about the origins of food.

Visit to CRA Torrevelilla and Development of the School Program

At CRA Torrevelilla, Simón joined an educational activity designed to promote healthy eating habits among young people. This event is part of the School Program for the Consumption of Fruits, Vegetables, and Milk, which precedes Aragón’s fruit distribution campaign set to begin in September in schools across the three provinces. For the 2025-2026 school year, 160 workshops have been planned in Aragonese schools, organized by Océano Ocio and Gestión de Servicios, combining education and practice through board games, cooperative challenges, and guided tastings.

These workshops, which last 90 minutes, are aimed at children aged 3 to 10 and are tailored to the characteristics of each school. Each session includes visual, sensory, and participatory tests, adjusted to the educational level of the participants.

Healthy Eating and Knowledge of Agriculture

The program aims to promote the consumption of fruits, vegetables, and dairy products from an early age, encouraging balanced eating habits. Through play, students learn about reducing food waste, the seasonality of products, and the food production chain. The activities also teach the benefits of consuming fruit and the importance of reducing added sugars.

Additionally, the workshops familiarize students with Aragón’s role as a producing region, explaining the cultivation and marketing of fruits and vegetables, as well as the production of milk and dairy products. Counselor Simón emphasized the importance of educating on healthy habits and valuing the work of those who produce food.

Local Products and Healthy Habits

During the activities, children taste products in their natural state, without additives. The guided tasting allows them to experience seasonal fruits, vegetables, and dairy products, promoting the recognition of healthy options for snacks and at home. These initiatives aim for students to apply these habits outside the classroom, especially during the summer, identifying fruit as a healthy option linked to the region.

The Department of Agriculture, Livestock, and Food believes the program should promote healthy eating, reduce food waste, and strengthen the connection between children, the rural environment, and the Aragonese primary sector.

In September, the Government of Aragón will launch a new campaign for the distribution of local fruit in schools, ensuring Aragonese products in educational centers.
