Zaragoza Promotes STEAM Careers for Children on International Women’s Day

A total of 120 boys and girls participated in an educational event organized by the hiberus Foundation and San Jorge University, in recognition of February 11, International Day of Women and Girls in Science. The initiative aimed to encourage scientific and technological vocations, as well as to highlight the role of women in the STEAM fields.

Activities and Themes of the Event

The event was structured into three consecutive sessions, with students from the Sansueña, Santa Ana, and Tenerías schools in Zaragoza participating. Each group had the opportunity to explore thematic spaces inspired by historical and contemporary figures in the STEAM fields, such as Ada Lovelace, Sara García Alonso, and Maryam Mirzakhani. During the event, students participated in workshops that combined logical thinking, programming, and cryptography, encouraging reflection on the impact of technology and science on society.

Inspiration through Female Role Models

The meeting culminated with the screening of an inspiring video by the hiberus Foundation, featuring female scientists from San Jorge University. Among them were María Pilar López, Doctor of Health and Sports Sciences; Sonia Núñez, Doctor of Health Sciences; and Cristina Berrocal, computer engineer. These professionals shared their experiences and achievements, serving as inspiration for the young participants.

Origin and Relevance of the Project

The initiative emerged from a project developed by students in the Master’s program in Marketing and Corporate Communication at San Jorge University. Under the direction of Tamar Buil, the project transformed into a dynamic and experiential workshop with a social impact. Aimed at 6th-grade students, the event focused on this crucial stage of academic and personal development, where decisions can influence the educational and professional future of young people.

The event, held at the hiberus facilities, received positive feedback from both students and teachers, who emphasized the importance of promoting more similar initiatives. The hiberus Foundation and San Jorge University thus reaffirm their commitment to equal opportunities and the promotion of STEAM vocations from an early age.
