The Ministry of Transport and Sustainable Mobility has completed the urban integration works on the N-232 road in Utebo, Zaragoza, with an investment of €7.8 million. This project, financed with European funds from the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan, has transformed the section between kilometers 250 and 251.9 into a safer space that is better integrated into its urban environment.

Urban Transformation and Sustainability in Utebo

The intervention on the N-232 has been an integral part of the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan, receiving European funding. The works have significantly improved the road infrastructure, focusing on safety and urban integration. The project included the widening of sidewalks and the creation of new pedestrian surfaces, totaling 11,800 m². Additionally, a two-way bike lane of 820 meters has been constructed, segregated from vehicle and pedestrian traffic.

The enhancement of sustainable mobility is complemented by the creation of over 14,000 m² of new green areas, equipped with urban furniture and root watering systems. A total of 275 new trees have been planted, contributing to the environmental integration of the thoroughfare.

Improvements in Road Safety and Energy Efficiency

To enhance road safety, traffic-calming measures have been implemented, such as raised crosswalks and the construction of roundabouts to improve connections with the urban fabric. Moreover, the width of the median has been reduced, and pre-installations have been made for future traffic signal systems and educational radars.

In terms of energy efficiency, a new lighting system with LED lamps has been installed, and the drainage system and road signage have been renovated, thereby improving the existing infrastructure.

Future Management and Handover to the Utebo City Council

With the completion of the works, the ownership of the section of the N-232 integrated into the urban network will be transferred to the Utebo City Council, which will assume responsibility for its conservation and maintenance. This transfer marks a new chapter in the local management of infrastructure, aligning with the goals of the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan.
