Recently we were visiting Rubielos de Mora; it is located on the right bank of the Rubielos river, belongs to the region called Gúdar-Javalambre, and has a lot to offer culturally and gastronomically. This small village is considered one of the most beautiful village in Spain. As we have told you, the town has a large number of ancestral homes and remarkable buildings that form its Historic-Artistic Ensemble (Europa Nostra Award 1983).
The town of Rubielos belongs to the Network of Municipalities for the quality of life «Cittaslow» and is a place of sealing on the Camino del Cid.
The typical and traditional gastronomy is based on products of the land (cereals, legumes, vegetables, fruits, etc.), and the most awarded products are undoubtedly:
- Ham with Denomination of Origin of Teruel.
- Ternasco de Aragón PGI.
- The Black Truffle (tuber melanosporum).
- Niscalo (Lactarius deliciosus).
Based on these products the most typical dishes are stewed beans, garlic soups, migas, stewed meat or the classic chops or shoulders of Ternasco de Aragón IGP.
You can also find wine or craft beer produced in the area. Among its wineries is the winery of Jesús Romero, a native of Teruel based in Valencia, who takes advantage of the special location of the vineyards to create his wines.
MariGolosa is a family project of elaboration and distribution of artisan products, which produces quality jams and Mijares craft beer using water from the Sierra de Gúdar.
You can’t leave Rubielos without visiting the Tahona Boutique (C/ Taberna, 5), an artisan, organic family bakery and tasting the Chicutas de Rubielos.
