The Juneyao Group, one of China’s most important business conglomerates, has announced an initial investment of €10 million in Zaragoza, through its subsidiary Dongfang Automobile, to establish its first European operational headquarters in the Aragonese city, dedicated to the marketing of electric vehicles and associated services.
This announcement is a direct result of the internationalization strategy promoted by the mayor of Zaragoza, Natalia Chueca, who led an institutional and commercial mission to China in February this year. During her visit to Shanghai, Chueca held meetings with senior executives from the Juneyao Group and presented the competitive advantages of Zaragoza as a strategic logistics and industrial hub in southern Europe.
The business operation was confirmed after a second visit in April by a delegation from Dongfang Automobile to Zaragoza, where contacts with key local partners such as the Carreras Group and the Zeumat Group were consolidated. The result: the city will be the starting point for the European expansion of the Chinese group’s electric mobility division.
Meeting at which Natalia Chueca signed an agreement with the Juneyao Group. The working meeting was chaired by the executive president of the Juneyao Group, Gao Binghua, and the mayor.
A commitment to electric mobility and local industry
The investment will enable Dongfang Automobile to offer sales and after-sales services for electric commercial vehicles, spare parts supply, rental, brand promotion, and financial support from Zaragoza. In the medium term, if market performance meets expectations, the company is considering a second phase that would include local assemblyof vehicles, generating a greater industrial impact and strengthening the supply chain in Aragon, especially in sectors such as batteries and tires.
Strategic commitment to sustainability
The Juneyao Group, founded in 1991 and with an annual turnover of around €9 billion, employs around 20,000 peopleand operates in sectors such as aviation, finance, education, technological innovation, and consumer goods. Its decision to establish a presence in Zaragoza is based on both strategic factors—such as logistics connectivity and a favorable business climate—and municipal policy focused on sustainability and the promotion of renewable energy.
For Mayor Chueca, this agreement reflects “Zaragoza’s ability to attract high value-added international investment and move towards a more innovative, sustainable, and global economic model.”
International projection and business cooperation
The establishment of Dongfang Automobile in Zaragoza not only reinforces the city’s position as a magnet for Chinese investment, but also opens the door to new industrial collaborations and the development of technology applied to mobility. This agreement could serve as a model for international public-private cooperation in other municipalities and regions that aspire to integrate the energy transition into their economic development plans.
