The Government of Aragon and the City Council of Huesca have signed an agreement for the renaturalization of the playground at CEIP Alcoraz, as part of the environmental education program ‘Patios X El Clima’. This project, with a budget of €165,437.34 funded by the City Council, aims to transform the space into a greener and more educational environment.
Signing of the Agreement and Institutional Framework
The signing of the agreement took place at CEIP Alcoraz, attended by the Minister of Education, Carmen Susín, and the Mayor of Huesca, Lorena Orduna. Susín highlighted the pedagogical importance of the project, which not only adapts the physical space but also promotes practical environmental education. This commitment reflects the goal of transforming educational centers in Aragon into safe and modern spaces.
Orduna, for her part, described the initiative as a «pilot project» for Huesca, emphasizing the demands of the educational community and the intention to move towards greener and more resilient school playgrounds in the face of climate change.
Educational and Climatic Context of the Project
The project aligns with the philosophy of the ‘Patios X El Clima’ program, which seeks to mitigate rising temperatures by creating green and shaded spaces. Orduna mentioned that this transformation is a response to the needs expressed by the educational community and a first step towards the renaturalization of other school playgrounds in the city.
The objective is to transform concrete areas into spaces with trees and vegetation, improving conditions against heat and providing outdoor educational resources.
Participatory Process, Funding, and Assessment of the Center
The renaturalization of CEIP Alcoraz is the result of a participatory process that involved the entire educational community. The project has a budget of €165,437.34, funded by the City Council of Huesca. Jorge Coloma, the school’s principal, emphasized the importance of this project for the school community.
The works include the demolition of impermeable pavement, the planting of trees, the installation of natural pergolas, and the implementation of sustainable drainage systems. Additionally, elements for play and outdoor teaching will be created, integrating the new infrastructure into the management of the school.
The renaturalization project of CEIP Alcoraz is presented as a climate refuge and an educational resource, the result of collaboration between the Government of Aragon and the City Council of Huesca. With a participatory approach and specific actions, it aims to transform a concrete school space into a safe, modern environment adapted to current climatic and educational challenges.
