From October 29 to 31, 2025, Zaragoza will be the epicenter of mystery and culture with a new edition of the International Meeting of Occult Culture, directed by Javier Sierra. This year, the event will revolve around the lesser-explored secrets of Francisco de Goya, on the verge of the bicentennial of his death, with a program that combines art, literature, history, and esotericism.
During three days, five lectures, guided tours, and live activities will take place. Among the speakers are Dolores Redondo, who will address the influence of witchcraft on Goya’s work; Florencio Monje Gil, with an analysis of the deformities in the Black Paintings; and Montse Aguer, who will explore the links between Goya and Dalí. The event will close with Katherine Neville.
In addition to the talks, the program includes a visit to the exhibition “Goya: from the museum to the palace” at the Aljafería and the live recording of a radio program. With free admission and a capacity of 600 people, Occult Culture reaffirms its vocation of bringing the hidden dimensions of culture closer to the general public.
Occult Culture celebrates its eighth edition this year and is increasingly generating anticipation. What will attendees discover at this event that combines art, literature, history, and mystery?
We are just two years away from celebrating the bicentennial of Goya’s death, and Aragón is influenced by the proximity of the anniversary. Occult Culture is dedicated to the mysteries of art, with a special emphasis on Goya.
The subtitle is “Goya, art, and mystery.” What aspects of Goya will they explore?
Two lectures will focus on Goya’s links to witchcraft. In the 19th century, Aragón was a territory with a presence of witches and heterodox cults. Dolores Redondo and Clara Tahoces will share their findings.
They will feature international figures such as Katherine Neville. What role will she play in the meeting?
Katherine Neville, author of «The Eight,» will participate in Occult Culture with her experience in painting. Her influential voice promises to leave a significant mark.
The program includes a lecture that connects Goya with Dalí. What link exists between these artists?
Montse Aguer will focus on Dalí, highlighting the similarities with Goya in their love for reason and magic. Dalí painted alchemical and atomic themes, connecting with the essence of Goya.
Beyond the lectures, they have included guided tours and the live recording of a radio program. What importance do these complementary formats have?
Occult Culture promotes activities beyond the lectures. The Goya Foundation in Aragón offers guided access to the exhibition at the Aljafería. The program “Espacio en Blanco” from RNE will also be recorded.
I would like to ask you about your book “The Master Plan,” what relation does it have with Occult Culture?
“The Master Plan” explores Goya’s relationship with astrology and its impact on his paintings. It is a perfect companion for delving into the connection with the supernatural.
Zaragoza, Goya’s hometown, is also the setting for this event. What role does the capital play?
Zaragoza, as the host of the Meeting, stands out for its Aragonese identity. Goya’s presence in the program reinforces the connection with the local audience.
