Application Period Now Open for Research Baccalaureate in Aragón 2026/2027

The Department of Education, Science, and Universities of Aragón has opened the application period for the Research and Excellence Baccalaureate Program (BIE) for the 2026/2027 academic year. This program, aimed at students with a minimum average grade of 8 in their secondary education, seeks to foster talent and research capabilities through collaborative projects with the university.

Application Timeline and Process

Those interested in applying to the BIE must submit their applications from tomorrow until May 28 at 2:00 PM. Applications must follow the template of Annex IX published in the resolution by the Department of Education. In addition to the application, a letter from the student or tutor outlining the reasons and qualifications for pursuing the BIE is required, along with documentation that verifies the requirements, such as academic certificates and participation in related competitions.

The selection process includes a personal interview and verification of requirements. Final admission depends on the availability of spaces and enrollment at the corresponding center.

Objectives and Educational Approach of the Research and Excellence Baccalaureate

The BIE is designed to develop students’ talent and autonomy through innovative methodologies. The program focuses on the development of projects in collaboration with the university, facilitating exposure to real research work. Students will learn to handle experimental data, write reports, and present results publicly.

Academic Structure: Subjects and Work with the University of Zaragoza

The BIE is structured into two courses. In the first year, the subject «Introduction to Research,» which is multidisciplinary in nature, is taught to prepare students for the second year’s project. This project, involving three hours per week, is linked to a subject from the course and is developed under the guidance of a university professor. Practical activities are conducted at the University of Zaragoza, complementing theoretical training.

Participating Centers and Modalities for the 2026-2027 Academic Year

For the 2026-2027 academic year, the BIE will be offered in three centers: IES Medina Albaida and IES El Picarral in Zaragoza, and IES Torre de los Espejos in Utebo. The first two will offer the Sciences and Technology modality, while the third will focus on Humanities and Social Sciences. Each center will have 20 spots available for selected students.
